Named after tennis legend Rod Laver, the tournament features a unique format where six of the top players from Team Europe face off against six of the best from Team World. This dynamic competition blends individual excellence with team strategy over three days of singles and doubles matches.

Team World for the 2024 Laver Cup will once again aim to defend their title after winning the last two editions. Coached by the legendary John McEnroe, Team World features a powerful lineup of six elite players from various countries.

As of now, the confirmed players for Team World include:

  • Taylor Fritz (USA) – A top American player and one of the team’s strongest contenders.
  • Frances Tiafoe (USA) – Known for his energetic play, Tiafoe is a returning key player.
  • Ben Shelton (USA) – A rising star, Shelton’s power and athleticism make him a formidable opponent.
  • Thanasi Kokkinakis (Australia) – A versatile player with experience in both singles and doubles.
  • Alejandro Tabilo (Chile) – New to the team, Tabilo brings a fresh perspective.
  • Francisco Cerúndolo (Argentina) – A last-minute addition, adding depth to the squad.

Team Europe for the 2024 Laver Cup is packed with talent as they aim to reclaim the title from Team World. The squad, led by new captain Bjorn Borg, features some of the biggest names in tennis, blending both experience and youth. Here’s the confirmed lineup:

Team Europe has undergone some significant changes this year; not only are they missing their iconic captain, but they also have to strategize around the absence of Nadal and Djokovic. Instead, the conference will focus on younger talents.

2024 Laver Cup – format, rules

This Laver Cup isn’t just another tournament; it’s seen as something unique within the tennis calendar. It has developed its own identity, marked by bright lights, strong rivalries, and incredible player interactions, weaving history with the modern era.

The tournament will feature both day and night sessions on 20 and 21 September, adding to the excitement for fans and players alike.

During the tournament, points will be awarded for each match won, with the number of points increasing as the event progresses. Teams will earn one point for a match win on the opening day (20 September), followed by two on Saturday and three points for matches on Sunday (22 September).

The team that reaches 13 points first will be crowned the Laver Cup champion. A minimum of nine matches will be played between the two teams, with the potential for up to 13 matches if the competition remains closely contested.
