The 2026 edition of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, part of the WTA Tour’s prestigious WTA 1000 series, wrapped up in Doha, Qatar from 8-14 February 2026 with some of the most compelling tennis of the early season. Held each year at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, the tournament once again attracted a world-class field, serving as the first major stop on the 2026 women’s circuit.
Now in its 24th edition, the Qatar TotalEnergies Open is one of the most important events outside the Grand Slams and year-end championships for female players. As a WTA 1000 event on outdoor hard courts, it combines big ranking points with significant prize money and global attention – making it a flagship early-season competition on the women’s tour.
The week in Doha was marked by intense competition, standout performances, and significant upsets, setting the tone for the 2026 season ahead.
In a stunning finale, Karolína Muchová captured the singles title with a straight-sets victory over rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko, winning 6-4, 7-5 to seal her breakthrough moment at a WTA 1000 event. This victory marked Muchová’s first WTA 1000 title and her first professional tournament win since 2019, breaking a significant drought in her career. Muchová, age 29 at the time of her victory, became one of the older first-time WTA 1000 winners in Doha’s history.
Beyond the scoreline, Muchová’s performance under pressure displayed poise and tactical maturity – qualities that bodes well for her prospects in bigger events throughout 2026.
Victoria Mboko’s run to the final was equally impressive. The 19-year-old had already announced herself as a force to watch by taking down higher seeds en route to the championship match and is poised to break into the WTA top 10 following her performance in Doha.
Top seeds including Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and defending champion Amanda Anisimova fell earlier than expected, opening the draw for breakthrough runs and surprise contenders. Prior to 2026, Iga Swiatek was the most dominant recent player at this venue, having won three consecutive titles (2022-24).
Spectacular performances: Maria Sakkari advanced deep into the draw with a hard-fought upset over a top seed, showcasing the depth of competition on the WTA Tour.
Health and retirements: The event also saw notable retirements, including defending champion Amanda Anisimova and Emma Raducanu withdrawing due to health issues, underscoring the physical challenges of the tennis calendar.
