Carlos Alcaraz won his first title of 2025 after beating Alex de Minaur in the final of the Rotterdam Open on Sunday, 9 of February.
The 21-year-old won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in just under two hours. The win marks the 17th title of the 21-year-old Alcaraz’s nascent career and a first for the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion since last October’s China Open.
Alcaraz becomes the first Spanish champion in tournament history while claiming his sixth ATP 500 title.

“Congratulations, man. Too good again,” said de Minaur to Alcaraz during the trophy presentations.

“You’re an incredible person, we have known each other for a very long time, we have always had some fun battles and I enjoyed my time very much on the court today.

“Thank you and well done for the week.”

Alcaraz’s decision to compete at the indoor hard-court ATP 500 event may come as a surprise, but it shows the work he is willing to put in to become an all-rounded threat on Tour. In previous years, the Spaniard has chosen to head to South America for the clay-court swing, where he triumphed at the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro in 2022, and at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires in 2023.

“There were some nerves in the match, some tense situations, but I think it was a really good game,” Alcaraz said when asked of his level. “Most importantly, I stayed strong mentally and focused during the whole match, even if I lost the second set. To come into the third with a strong mentality was pretty good, but I think my game today was high.

“The final is always really difficult because you have to deal with nerves, with the pressure of playing a final. I think I managed it pretty well today. I knew what I had to do since the beginning of the match, but the first round was pretty tough as well.”

Next up for the world number three is another ATP 500 event, the Qatar Open, which starts in Doha on 17 February.

Upgraded from a 250 since last year, the tournament is set to feature world number one Jannik Sinner and two-time winner Novak Djokovic.
