World no. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is chasing his third consecutive Madrid Masters title. The Spaniard missed Monte Carlo and Barcelona due to a right arm injury. Carlos recovered ahead of Madrid, scoring two wins at Caja Magica and moving into the last 16.

Carlos Alcaraz won his 13th match in a row at the Madrid Open as he beat Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets to reach the last 16.

World No. 3 Alcaraz, who is bidding to win the title for the third year in a row, proved too strong and skilful for world No. 63 Seyboth Wild as he won 6-3 6-3.

“I played a very good level,” said Alcaraz about his display against Seyboth Wild.

“Coming into this match I was nervous a bit. I didn’t know how my forearm was going to be because Thiago has big shots and hits the ball really strong. But I was really happy with the performance.”

Carlos notched his 13th consecutive win at Caja Magica, moving closer to Rafael Nadal’s record of 14.

At 93.3%, Alcaraz holds the highest win percentage at the Madrid Open of any player in a single ATP-1000 event since the introduction of the format in 1990 (minimum 10 matches played).

The two-time major winner will play Germany’s 23rd seed Jan-Lennard Struff in the last 16 in a repeat of the 2023 final.

Hubert Hurkacz also made the last 16 with a 6-4 7-6(2) victory against Daniel Altmaier.

Seventh seed Andrey Rublev came from 5-0 down in the first set tie-break to beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (10) 6-4.

Taylor Fritz improved to 5-0 against Sebastian Baez with a 6-2 6-3 win while Francisco Cerundolo won 6-7(7) 6-4 6-2 against 15th seed Tommy Paul.

In the third round of the women’s singles, fourth seed Elena Rybakina breezed past Mayar Sherif in straight sets, winning 6-1 6-4.

But reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is out, the seventh seed upset by 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, losing out 7-5 6-1 to the supremely talented teenager.
