The 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters is being held from 1 to 12 October 2025 in Shanghai, China. It is played on outdoor hard courts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in the Minhang District. The tournament is part of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events on the ATP Tour, and is the only one not played in Europe or North America.

And the history is making just now!

Valentin Vacherot (ranked world No. 204) caused a major upset by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals, becoming the lowest-ranked player ever to reach an ATP Masters 1000 final! His path has been remarkable – he started in qualifying and worked his way through. Also, he is the first from Monaco to reach an ATP Tour singles final and a Masters-1000 final. His ranking improved significantly after Shanghai already – into the top 60 for the first time in his career.

In the other semifinal, Arthur Rinderknech upset Daniil Medvedev (the 2019 Shanghai champion) in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-4). As a college player, he was a five-time All-American (3 in singles, 2 in doubles) at Texas A&M. Unlike some players who transition directly from juniors to pro tour, he took time to develop in college, which he and others consider to have given him a more solid foundation.
Thus, the final is set to be a family affair: Rinderknech and Vacherot are cousins.

So big names played this time: Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, and more.
Djokovic has had considerable success in Shanghai in past editions (he’s a multiple-time champion).
Jannik Sinner, the defending champion from 2024, was in the field but had to retire from a match due to a cramp.

After the final, one of the cousins will take home USD 1,124,380!

Let’s enjoy their incredible victories and wish good luck to the strongest!
