Tennis has been one of the most popular sports of our time with several players garnering a larger than life personality through their actions both on and off the field.
While player rivalries have played a big part in generating interest among the fans, the personal lives of tennis stars have also been a source of much intrigue. And this intrigue only increases when the apparent romance is between two tennis players.
Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf
The pair of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf is probably the most iconic of tennis couples. They ruled the tennis courts during the ’90s. Both players also share nine Wimbledon trophies between them, eight of which belong to Steffi.
Graf and Agassi were married in October 2001, at a time when only the American was still active on the circuit. They had two children, Jaden Gil (2001) and Jaz Elle (2003). Both world No 1 during their career, they compiled a combined 30 Grand Slam titles (22 for Graf, 8 for Agassi).
Roger Federer and Miroslava Vavrinec
It was love at first sight when Roger Federer met Miroslava (Mirka) Vavrinec in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The couple has never left each other’s side since then. Twenty years later and after twelve years of marriage, they are still together.
Federer has ruled the grass court of Wimbledon for nearly two decades. The Swiss has accumulated eight titles on his favourite turf. On the contrary, Mirka has not been as successful as Federer at the All England Club. Her two exploits in 2000 and 2001 saw her facing defeat in the first round. She also teamed up with Roger for the 2002 Hopman Cup, which turned out to be unsuccessful. Consequently, she formally announced her retirement from the sport in 2002.
Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils
Svitolina and Monfils have been together since early 2019, when the Frenchman sat in the Ukrainian’s box during her matches at the Australian Open. The couple are very active on social networks, in particular on their joint account “G.E.M.S Life” on Instagram. This name is an acronym for Gaël Elina Monfils Svitolina, and means “diamonds” in English.
Kristina Mladenovic and Dominic Thiem
Mladenovic and Thiem shared a love affair for over two years. The couple, combining the Frenchwoman, once-ranked No 10 and the Austrian, winner of the US Open in 2020, formalised their separation in November 2019.
The world of tennis is full of good looking men and beautiful women players. The crossing of paths is bound to create some closeness among the players.
