Aryna Sabalenka winning WTA Miami Open 2026 trophy

OVERVIEW

The WTA Miami Open 2026, held from March 17 to March 29 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, delivered world-class tennis, emotional storylines, and historic achievements. As one of the most prestigious WTA 1000 tournaments, Miami once again proved to be a defining moment in the season.

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka defeated Coco Gauff in the final, 6–2, 4–6, 6–3 to win the women’s singles tennis title at the 2026 Miami Open. It was her eleventh WTA 1000 title, and she became the fifth woman to complete the Sunshine Double (having won Indian Wells two weeks prior).

Despite reaching the final, Gauff openly discussed struggles with confidence and pressure, offering a rare glimpse into the psychological demands of elite tennis.

Sabalenka also became the first player to complete the Sunshine Double in both singles and doubles (having previously achieved the latter in 2019). She was the first woman to win consecutive Miami Open titles since Serena Williams from 2013 to 2015.

The semifinal match between Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, won by Sabalenka, marked the first time since the 1998 US Open semifinal between Martina Hingis and Jana Novotná in which the world No. 1 and No. 2 faced off before the final outside of the WTA Finals, as well as the third such instance overall after the 1996 French Open.
